Hydrogel creams are used for dry, dehydrated or granulated wounds, epithelial tissue, minor burns and other painful skin conditions such as abrasions or severe scrapes. The high water content of hydrogel cools the wound and provides temporary relief from pain for up to six hours. Hydrogel has the unique capability to lock in moisture and prevent evaporation. The molecular makeup of this gel-like substance can hold up to 50x its weight in liquid while also adhering to skin. By keeping the wound moist, the hydrogel dressing assists the body in fighting wound infection as well as generates a faster and more efficient healing.
