Hand and Skin Sanitizers for hospital use, also referred to as Hospital-Grade Disinfectants, is a disinfecting wash/solution that effectively cleans the skin with water. It is a liquid containing active antimicrobial ingredients that kill bacteria and other microorganisms. As the hands are the most germ-infested part of the body, it is extremely important to wash them properly prior to any medical procedures.
Sanitizers/Disinfectants are fast-acting antiseptic and antimicrobial skin cleansers that can protect the skin up to 24 hours after application. They effectively cleanse the skin and wounds on contact. By killing bacteria and germs on contact, disinfectants are an effective method of preventing infections and reducing the risk of cross-contamination.

FAQs
What is the proper hand sterilization method before surgical procedures?
1) Wash hands and arms thoroughly with StayGuard™ Pre-surgical/Clinical Antibacterial Hand Wash under warm running water. Make sure to thoroughly clean the nails, cuticles, and between fingers. Dry with a sterile towel.
2) Rub hands vigorously with about 3-4 ml of StayGuard™ Hand Disinfectant for 1 minute or until completely dried.
How can I apply the UltraGuard Surgical Skin Disinfectant?
To disinfect the skin before surgery, StayGuard™advises gently applying and swabbing the solution for at least 2 minutes. Dry with a sterile towel and repeat this procedure for another 2 minutes. This should be done immediately before the surgical incision. For general skin cleansing, rinse the area with water and apply the minimum amount of skin disinfectant to cover the skin or wound area. Wash gently and rinse thoroughly.
What is the difference between the EconoGuard and XtraGuard hand washes?
Both hand washes effectively kill and reduce bacteria on the skin. The XtraGuard Hand Washes contain chlorhexidine, which protects the skin up to 24 hours after application.
Which StayGuard™ Hand Disinfectant is right for me?
StayGuard™ offers four variations of liquid hand disinfectants. Our XtraGuard series (HSS-03) is specially formulated for use in clinical/cleanroom settings and should not be used for sterilization before surgery. All three UltraGuard hand disinfectant variations are formulated for use before surgical procedures. HSS-04 is the most economical choice with chlorhexidine acetate 0.65-0.8% (w/v) and medical-grade alcohol 65-75% (v/v). HSS-05 and ABS-06 both contain chlorhexidine gluconate, which has better water solubility and causes less skin irritation than chlorhexidine acetate. HSS-05 is our only specialized low alcohol formulation.
Can the XtraGuard Pre-surgical/Clinical Hand Washes be used for normal consumers?
XtraGuard hand washes can be used like any ordinary liquid soap. Wash gently and rinse thoroughly with warm water for 20 seconds. Be sure to keep the hand wash away from eyes, ears, mouth, and genital areas. As an antiseptic skin cleaner, it is actually safe for everyday use but may cause some skin irritation.
How do the XtraGuard Pre-surgical/Clinical Hand Washes protect up to 24 hours?
Chlorhexidine safely binds to the skin and provides a bacteria-killing zone that can last up to 24 hours.
What is the difference between disinfectants/sanitizers and regular soap?
Hand and skin sanitizers contain antimicrobial chemicals that effectively kill 99.9% bacteria and other microorganisms. It is especially important in hospital and clinic settings to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria.
